Scholarship Guidelines

PC Electric Continuing Education Scholarship Program ($1000.00)

To Whom Awarded:
PC Electric will award certificates and scholarships annually to three graduating high school seniors, one from each of our tri-parish service areas; Iberville Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish & West Baton Rouge Parish, where the following conditions are met. There is no limitation on persons who are eligible recipients of the scholarships. Scholarships will be given without regard to race, creed, religion, national origin, sex or employment status of prospective recipients or of any relative of any prospective recipient.

Amount Of Scholarships:
Three scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each for two semesters will be awarded to each of the three recipients. A total of $1000.00 will be awarded to each of the recipients during their freshman year.

Free Choice Of College/Vocational School And Course Of Study:
The recipient of a PC Electric Continuing Education Program scholarship is free to select any accredited college, university, business or vocational school in and to select any course of study he/she desires to pursue, providing that such course of study leads toward an academic degree.

Responsibility Of Member Services, Marketing And Communications Department:
The applicants who meet all the criteria will be eligible to receive the scholarships. Three separate drawings will be held each year at the PC Electric Annual Meeting in January. Applicants who have met all criteria will be placed in the drawings according to the parish in which they receive service. A winner will be selected by random drawing from Iberville Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish and West Baton Rouge Parish. The drawings will take place and the winners will be announced at the annual meeting prior to the drawing of the door prizes.

Criteria To Be Used In Selecting The Scholarship Recipients:
The department staff shall consider the following criteria in selecting the recipients of the scholarship:

  1. Applicant/Recipient must have a parent or legal guardian who is a member of and receives electricity from PC Electric.
  2. Applicant/Recipient must have maintained at least a 2.5 (C) overall GPA in high school.
  3. Applicant/Recipient must include a copy of his/her high school grades transcript.
  4. Applicant/Recipient must be entering his/her freshman year.
  5. Applicant/Recipient must be a full-time student.

Non-Use Of Scholarship:
The scholarship recipient must commence his or her college education no later than the September following his or her graduation from high school to be eligible to receive the scholarship. In the event the recipient does not accept the scholarship by failing to enroll in a college, university, trade school or business school, the gift will lapse, and PC Electric will have the option to re-use his or her gift in a subsequent year.

Announcement Of Winners:
The scholarship recipients will be presented with a framed certificate during their high school graduation or awards ceremonies. A representative of PC Electric will make the presentation when possible. News releases and pictures of the winners and PC Electric personnel will be published in our three local papers in our service areas; the Pointe Coupee Banner, Post South, West Side Journal as well as our Louisiana Country publication; PC Electric website and Facebook page.

Publicity:
Information and application forms explaining the PC Electric Continuing Education Scholarship Program will be made available annually to the local high schools in the tri-parish area. News releases will be sent to the local news media.

Time Schedule:

  1. Last week in October - Scholarship applications, as well as additional information, will be made available to the local high schools for distribution to interested students. Information will be placed on our website at www.pcemc.org under the Educational Programs section.
  2. December 7- The deadline for submission of applications from students. Applications and other required information should be mailed to the following: Jill Copeland PC Electric P.O. Box 160 New Roads, La. 70760.  As an alternative, applicants may drop off completed applications/information to PC Electric office, located at 2506 False River Drive in New Roads.
  3. January 30, 2019: The drawings for the three scholarship winners will take place at the regularly scheduled Annual Meeting. One winner will be drawn from each of the three parishes PC Electric serves; Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge. If a parish does not have a qualifying applicant, all qualifying applicant names will then be put into a final drawing in order to ensure that a total of three scholarships are awarded.
  4. May: Framed certificates will be awarded to the scholarship recipients during their high school graduation or awards ceremonies. When possible, a representative of PC Electric will present the certificates to the recipients. News releases with photos announcing the scholarship winners will be placed in the Pointe Coupee Banner, Post South and the West Side Journal as well as our Louisiana Country Publication, PC Electric website and Facebook page.

Handling Of Scholarship Money:
The recipients of these scholarships should first pay the tuition to the college, university, trade school or business school selected by the student. The scholarship recipient should then either mail, fax or drop off proof of paid registration and books to Jill Copeland at the PC Electric office. PC Electric will reimburse the recipient in the amount of $500.00 for the first two semesters of their freshman year.
